Dress Alterations

Hi - does anyone have anywhere they would recommend for wedding/bridesmaid dress alterations in Dublin?

Basically, my bms dresses need to be altered (more than I expected which I'm not thrilled about) and also I need a final fitting on my wedding dress. I live in NZ so all the other alterations have been done here. After travelling across the world my dress will need also a press/steaming thingy as well so I need somewhere that can do it all together.

Anyone have any suggestions/good experiences somewhere? I'm a bit concerned about the bms dresses so looking for somewhere that I know will do a good job. The wedding is in 6 weeks so I think we're not too bad for time.

if your bridesmaids are in Ireland ask them to go into a bridal store and ask for recommendations for a dressmaker for alterations. Most shops have someone they recommend.

Whereabouts in Dublin will you need? I've used this crowd for dress alterations and found them good, although I don't know about their bridal dress work. Might be worth checking out

Beware of standard alteration places, zipyard etc are used to dealing with jeans etc as such needles tools etc never get adjusted and would wreck delicate fabrics.
I do alterations. I have worked on Vera Wang amongst many others, I work in BT's and teach also. Pm me if you need my details.
Finally make sure they all go to the same dressmaker if possible at least once together as lengths need to be matched.
    Best of luck

whereabouts in Dublin? I got mine done in Balbriggan. The woman was very down to earth and very reasonable with the price (my alterations cost E65)

Hi, I seem in a post that you do alterations and have done to Vera Wang dresses.

I bought my dress in a sample sale Vera wang and it needs alterations. I am going to have it dry cleaned as there is a few light marks on it. I would mainly need it fitted to me, straps altered n maybe taken up. How much do you charge

    Thanks

I had a bridesmaid's dress altered in Fitz alterations on Drury St in January and was super happy with them. It was 40e to alter the dress, and they were serious alterations as it was a size too big, plus the fabric of the dress was lace with sequins, so it needed to be lined up properly again etc. They were really nice too. http://alterations.ie/

Hi, I would definitely suggest that you avoid Fitz. I went there to have my wedding dress altered and my veil dry-cleaned. That was the worst idea... The woman who altered the dress did not listen to me correctly and was rude. Now my dress is falling off my shoulders and the bust is too big even though this was the reason why I wanted to have it altered. My veil... they actually managed to lose it. The worst is that it took them nearly a month to confess. For 3 weeks I was calling them and asking them why there was such a delay and the manager kept avoiding my questions. The manager kept saying that he would call back and he never did. Finally they replaced my veil and when I asked them for a discount the manager promised he would have it sorted it out when I came to pick up the dress. And of course when I came he wasnt there and he had nothing done. So all this happened 3 weeks before my wedding, this is the worst alteration shop and the worst service ever.

    Hi dilly dressmaker,

I bought a (ex-rental) dress that was only worn once, so perfect condition. But it's a size too big. The shop had my size for sale, but poor condition. Could you successfully alter the dress - and would it be expensive (I've only paid 50 euros for the dress, in the sale).. It's full length, with a fishtail..

Beware of standard alteration places, zipyard etc are used to dealing with jeans etc as such needles tools etc never get adjusted and would wreck delicate fabrics.

Mod Note: Hi Wicklowmom, and welcome to boards :). It's been 18 months since this thread was posted in, and it looks like dillydressmaker may not still be an active user. You would probably be better off going to a dressmaker in person and asking them.
