No, you most likely have a UK TV that only does MPEG 2 so you need a set top box.

If the telly is very recent ( sub c.3 years) it may have a feature for activating one of Mpeg4 or H.264 , this is if it tunes RTE1 and RTE2 but will not show the picture, only the sound.

However if the telly does not even find the saorview TV channels and only tunes the radio channels into the EPG you will need the external box.

Sorry cant work out how to post a thread in satallite / saorviewforum.

    Just wanted to post this.

Today i helped my brother in law get Saorview on his family TV.

Its a two year old Samsung TV that had very bad reception for irish tv. The problem was that the aerial was run through a booster / splitter in the attic (that was years old). We simply re ran the aerial cable direct from a standard roof top aerial to the Samsung tv. We then went into "Anthena" settings and searched for TV and Digital channels in options. Without the use of a saorview box or soarview approved tv we were able to receive perfect sound and picture for all Irish channels

My point is - if you have a tv that is only a few years old and can proccess MPEG 4 then a saorview box might not be neccessary. First try tune in digital channels using the options.

P.S Please advise on how to start new thread or please post for me.
