    Thanks Brian, but all that shows is the minimal height! "exceeding 3.4m!!"

    Aviva staduim's a lot higher than that!!

    I know the football goalposts are 7.32m x 2.44m in Lansdowne, for all the good that does you

    That's the same for all soccer pitches, genius!

    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soccer_goals
    The goal structure is defined as a frame 24 feet (7.32 m) wide by 8 feet (2.44 m) tall.

    I don't know the answer, but here's a little trivia;

    About 10-15 years ago, some southern hemisphere stadium was being renovated, and the powers that be ordered new goalposts for it. They decided that they wanted to claim the world record for the tallest set of rugby goalposts, so they placed an order with whoever supplies goalposts for four posts that were 3 ft (or whatever) longer than the previously existing record.

    So far so good.

    The contractors installed the posts, in the normal manner. That is, they dug or drilled holes of appropriate diameter, six feet deep, and dropped the posts down into them.

    End result: the posts failed to beat the previous record, by three feet!

    ps I can't remember which stadium it was, or which was the previous record holder. One of them was Ellis Park, but I can't remember which.
