Primera won't start

A friend of mine changed the oil and spark plugs on my 98 nissan primera a couple of days ago. At first it started and drove fine, but after about 10 miles it cut out when I was stopping at a roundabout. This kept happening every time I stopped the car, and after a couple of times it just wouldn't start again.

Tried jump starting it, and charging the battery but it just won't start, and now the lights on the dash aren't coming on. It does try to start after charging the battery but just won't fire up.

    Any ideas?

could be a number reasons, check is airfilter is seated correctly, could be crank sensor faulty (coincidentally) or connection went lose, also could be alternator on the way out coupled with loose battery connection, also check vacuum pipes , could be pop off, or split, also,... more likely forgot tight up pipe goin from air box to tb, if that went loose, typical symptoms.

    just my 2 cents.

fuel pumps on the petrol models sometimes give same symptoms
before they fail. the fact that your mate changed the plugs and
    oil may only be coincidence.
turn the ignition on but don't start the car, see if you can hear the
pump (humming sound). it should come on for a few seconds to get
    fuel to the engine.

Mar4ix, think the alternator is fine, and all the connections look good. We did change the air filter too and now that you mention it I had the exact same problem about 10 years ago on a bike due to water getting into an air filter, but it all looks good to me. Is it possible it sucked some crap into the engine?

colm_mcm, gonna go get the ratchet head today to pull out the plugs and have a look, hopefully they werent over tightened.

dvae, the fuel pump seems ok, I can hear the hum when I turn the key.

    Thanks guys

suggest you do diagnostics, i think that could be one of sensors than.

edit: i suspect temperature sensor. it doesn't work simply. it stuck in cold , then car gives more fuel, and when car worm, it overfueling (ecu still thinks it cold).
Other sensor, would be crankshaft position sensor.

if you know somebody , who has these parts, borrow them for a day.
