My first Trip to Tipp was the last festival in 1997. A great lineup of The Prodigy, Manic St Preachers, Foo Fighters, Cardigans, Reef, Kula Shaker, Fluke and The Supernaturals. The town was destroyed with beer cans afterwards.:o

A sun-loving army of over 40,000 made the Trip to Tipp for the summer's last outdoor rock extravaganza yesterday.
Top acts The Prodigy and Manic Street Preachers led the one-day revival of the famous Feile Festival in Thurles.
The town was overrun by hordes of revellers who flocked in from the early morning. Some were reliving their youth, others trying the Trip to Tipp experience for the first time. They flooded into Semple Stadium at noon before Swedish stunner Nina Person and her band The Cardigans brought the crowd to its feet.
They were followed by a high class line-up, topped off by acclaimed Welsh rockers Manic Street Preachers and Essex-based Prodigy. The mostly young rock fans poured into Tipperary on special trains and buses as Gardai kept a watchful eye on proceedings.
But the day passed off without serious incident and cops reported only a few arrests, mostly for drunkenness.
The streets were littered with beer bottles and cans.
Organisers estimate they ploughed through around 250,000 pints and pumped an estimated pounds 6 million into the local economy.
The festival's early years gave entrepreneurs a chance to make a quick buck by turning their gardens into makeshift camp sites. But the one-day event kept the overnight trippers away. Even the shorter show was a massive undertaking. More than 30 tour buses and 45 trucks ferried the bands and their gear to the gig.
And the high-tech show featured banks of computers controlling 900 lights and two giant video screens.

Talks as recently as six weeks ago of it returning. Hopefully it will for the whole 3 days. Semple stadium/Tipperary GAA are in debt again. Feile sorted this in the early 1990's.
