We are fitting out our new kitchen and would like to put in a dual zone wine fridge. We had considered the Samsung RW52DASS 52 bottle dual zone fridge but there seem to be quite a few negative comments re. its performance. Has anyone any suggestions for an alternative or experience with the above?

We have that one and find it great. Found it hard to get a dual zone one that didn't cost an absolute fortune. The Samsung was cheaper than the rest and we have had no problem with it. Looks good too.

Thanks for that Methven. Good to get positive feedback. Reckon we will go with that one so. Just one more query - were you happy with the temperature of the red wine?

Why would you put red wine in the fridge..?

Is the fridge to keep the wines at serving temperature or for storing longer term or aging? If the latter, you're probably better off with a single zone model.

It's a basic misconception that all Red wines should be served at room temperature while all whites should be chilled.

Some reds are actually supposed to be chilled and you can even get red sparkling wines which some people are surprised at but benefit from chilling. Champagne is actually made from red grapes just that the grapes are more lightly pressed so as the skins don't impart their colour. If you split a red grape you will see that the flesh is white (or green to some). Then on the flip side some powerful and rich whites can be served at room temperature.

However my knowledge is very limited when it comes to wines so I would not be able to tell you what is what

And as these dual zone thingy's go I think you can set them at room temps which would keep the temp constant which is the most important thing when it comes to wine. So I think the term fridge here is the misleading bit.

Not quite up there with Neff quality but they look the part and are affordable.
5 years parts and 2 year labour guarantee isnt bad either.

You can easily adjust either zone with buttons on the front panel. Yes we are happy with the temp of the red. Obviously some reds are better cooler than others so you can adjust accordingly. Say for example you had all Beaujolais - ideally they would be a few degrees cooler then other reds so you can lower the temp. Hope that helps. Another option we looked at is the Liebherr side by side if you are going for an American style fridge as well. Google it and you can see - basically two thirds fridge and one third wine fridge. Pretty cool. Best of luck with whatever you choose.

Its not necessarily for serving temperature, red wine should be stored at between 13-16 degrees, to ensure it stays in optimum condition. These fridges facilitate this.

Beaujolais, Pinot Noir and red Sancerre's (all essentially are Pinot Noir) can be chilled a little bit for serving. The idea of those fridges is to store the wine at a constant temp.

Thanks to everyone for the very helpful information.

Padraig Mor - Our intention is to use the fridge to keep the wines at serving temps not for aging/storing purposes.
Elbow - we looked at the CDA models but couldn't find any reviews. Do you have this model and if so how do you find it?
Methven - again thank you so much for your help.

One of our suppliers sent down a few CDA brochure's last week, i've priced a few bits and pieces from them but as I haven't sold any of their products yet I couldn't give you any honest feedback from a customer point of view.

Mikep depending on where you purchase, the Samsung can cost between €500-€600.

RRP is €689 for equivalent model to the Samsung.

I only deal with appliances when a client wants a full appliance package with their kitchen so you'd properly get a better price from an electrical shop that deals with CDA day to day.
