Strange grip!

Just looking for abit of advice on my grip.
I am right handed, i play with right handed clubs but i use a left handed grip (or Hurley grip as alot of my golfing partners have named it).
I started out using this grip 4 years ago when i took up golf, and for years before i used same grip when messing around playing pitch+putt. I have spent a good many hours up the driving range and out my back trying to switch over to the right handed grip but i can't get the hang of it.
I keep getting told i should get lessons and have a pro help me switch my grip as i "should" learn to play the "correct" way. Thing is my left handed/Hurley Grip works for me. It looks rough and messy but i drive better then most, my irons are straight and long and my pitching is just as good as any of the club members i play with. I do use a right handed grip for putting as the left handed grip i used gave me no control.

Just wondering if others play this way and if they feel they getting the best out of themselves using this grip? I will get lessons if changing the grip could improve my game but i don't really want to go messing about with what works for me.
    Thanks for reading.

There's a guy in the course I play in uses this grip very effectively and plays off about 7. Not sure there is a right answer for you on this one given the amount of time and effort it's going to take you to change. Depends upon how hard you're willing to work on the change.

Unless you've got unlimited spare time and have dreams of playing professionally, I think you'd have to be mad to even consider changing. Just think of all the hours upon hours you will spend effectively learning a new game just to get back to the standard you are playing at the moment.

A Scottish amateur called John Gallagher won the British Amateur Championship some years back with the same grip as you.

He seems to be a pretty good golfer.

The short game is the most important part of golf and so if this part of your game is good then I wouldn't change.

I tend to think that playing cack-handed restricts overall length (with the driver) but if you are fairly long and straight then don't change.

I play same grip as yourself and I currently play off 12.

I'm thinking about changing in the winter based on being pushed hard by the pro I'm going to. My golf physio also reckons it's aggravating a muscle injury I'm been having.

If not for the reasons above I wouldn't change at all. Sounds like you're playing well enough and confident enough so why change.

What handicap are you and what are your expectations?

4 years isnt too long, I changed my grip over one summer after 15 years of the same grip, so it can be done.

You just need to accept that you will get worse before you get better and then dont revert back to the old grip ever...for any shot, no matter what.

Would it be easier change to left handed club's than change your grip???

I play off 11 the same way.

There is no way I could change even if I wanted to..... I would say switching to a left handed swing would be easier for me but I play once per week may so not worth the effort.

I see you have no problem with drivers as this year is the first year I have been able to hit one. To do that I hold the club right down the end of the grip.
I have just bought a few driver as the old one shattered on the 10th tee of my last round and I was thinking of getting it cut down 3 or 4 inches.
    Anyone ever heard of that??

I reckon you already know the answer to your question. If, as you say, you are playing to a level that is acceptable to you and are enjoying the game then there isn't much of an issue bar being annoyed that people keep saying it to you.

A buddy of mine plays off six and is right over left also. I think he has the greater laugh now when every new guy we play with says with a clever wink, 'Ahhh, you used to play hurling, didn't you?!'
