Theft while working

    Hey,
So today while working in a coffee shop my phone and wallet were stolen. I had both on my break and presume i put them back in my bag before starting work again. Cant be 100% sure i didnt leave them on the table i was at but the CCTV would seem to show that nothing was left at the table.
The area where we leave our stuff is very accessible to customers, as we have no staff room or the like to leave things. We have to hang them on a wall in the corrider out the back with no door into it.
So basically its most likely that someone (a customer) went in and took them or less so that i left them on a table and someone took them there.

My query is that given the liklihood from CCTV that they were stolen from my bag is there any way that the company insurance or anything could cover some or all of the loss, as it is a big amout (an iphone and around e100 worth in the wallet) and I havent anyway of getting the money together for a new phone anytime soon
    .
Thanks for any replies, really appreciate them, so so worried about this

The same thing happened where i work, one of the girls had her blackberry, cards and cash stolen, the person was arrested by the guards but the items could not be found.. when she rang the insurance company about the phone they would not pay out as A.. she took more than 24 hours to call them, and B they were not kept in a locker at work,( which is not provided anyway).. have you reported it stolen to the guards??? as they insurance company will ask you that anyway?? and ring your network provider to cut off your phone....

You can ask, but I doubt that your boss's insurance will pay: in general, a person/company cannot insure what they don't own.

However you should contact the company that your own contents insurance policy is with, and see if it's worth claiming.

You might have a case if your stuff was in the designated place.

    Thanks for the replies
Unfortuanately the same thing happened another girl the next day from the same place, apparently my boss didnt believe that they were stolen so didnt warn anyone to be careful.
Tried the contents insurace but it isnt covered because the phone hadnt been named on the policy. Gonna try with the companys insurance. My bag was hung on a coat rack beside a bunch of lockers, hoping they might accept the claim because the only area we provided has no door, never mind a lock, and a few of us reckon we were told a few yrs ago that we coulddnt use our own locks on the lockers because they were company property so my stuff would have been no safer there.
