I have UPC in house and it has 3 points but the one in my bedroom used to have an old Cablelink Box which broke over the years and i just connected it with splitters etc

The last few days My Modem was Blinking and my Broadband went, i did reboot it and it came back but the next day it went again i tried rebooting etc but nothing happened, but i did touch the wire coming in the house which is has splitter in it and the broadband came back eventually not sure of if i touched anything,

What i want to know is if Upc come out and find the problem which could be the wire and have to put a new Cable box in, Will i be Charged ????

If they find out that you were fiddling with the wires then yes because that is a problem caused by you and not them.

Although, if they don't ask and solve the problem, then no a charge should not be present because it was a fault and they came out to fix it. You would only be charged if it was an installation or if they found out the problem was your fault.

Firstly you should never remove the wall boxes. They contain a safety isolator to prevent electrocution.

That aside, you probably need one fitted now for safety.

Remember the UPC internet box needs to get the best signal possible to work reliably so ideally no splitters or you are asking for trouble.

Try the UPC internet box at all 3 places in the house.

UPC only guarantee on connection, if you pay for one connection. If they arrive and there are splitters, not installed by them, they will remove them. If this causes the problem to be fixed they will charge you as it was not their fault.

UPC guarantee the wire into the house and up to their box. From their box to your TV they don't guarantee as many people fit their own cables.

So when UPC arrive they need to see
    1) One connection, or one UPC supplied splitter feeding broadband and TV unless you are paying for multiroom.

    2) A UPC wall outlet

In your case the outlet is missing and a splitter fitted (by yourself?). It would be best to call them out, but first remove all your splitters and just hook up the UPC broadband box on it's own. If you have the old Cable link box then connect that too.

If the broadband works, when you remove all the other splitters, then the broadband might just be getting a weak signal.

Either way you need a proper wall outlet with lightning protection and electrical isolation. Otherwise your putting yourself and others at un-necessary risk.

Even if you have an old outlet UPC will put in a new one, every visit, as it is policy nowadays. I suspect if you remove the splitters and explain that their outlet went faulty to the guy on the day he may let you off with no charge and put in a new downlead and box.

I had an old nct box in room which disentergrated, they originally just through a long lead over the roof from the front to the back which i found a bit strange also its all coaxial now i never had the coaxial box so that is why i used splitters,

i have the lead coming from a box to a splitter for my broadband and tv
