garage/dealer warranty

Hi,
I just purchased a car (VW) from a garage (SIMI dealer) a couple of days ago. I have 6 months of warranty (parts only).
Now - the car started to behave "funny" and it's looks like it'll require a repair (possibly dual mass flywheel - can be expensive on itself and also the clutch should be replaced at the same time).
I may be paranoid but I don't really trust the garage and I'd like the job to be done by authorized VW dealer. And here's the question - do I _have to_ bring the car to the garage and let them play with the car or cover all the costs if I decide to go to authorized dealer/service...?

Firstly the tact that they are a member of SIMI means nothing - its like a union for the trade.
Secondly, what does your warrany say? I would doubt that younger any choice in where it can go apart from their garage

I would say so. As far as they are concerned, you have a mate in a VW dealers who will print you and invoice for supply and replace of a DMF and clutch kit. They will want to check the car them selves first. Most guys will used Sachs or LUK nowadays anyway, both these ARE OE on most european cars.

No chance in the world they'll let you go to a VW main dealer and pick up the tab. Also if its parts only then you'll still have a nice bill for a clutch/DMF change. Why did you agree to a parts only warranty?

I'd actually be surprised if a warranty will cover a clutch and flywheel. It's a wear and tear item.

I'd assume the same, unless you explicitly mentioned and agreed on it before the sale. (and it was written on your receipt!)

Would be very disappointed if it didn't . Wear and tear me arse.... Had cars with 150k on them without replacing a clutch.

You can burn a clutch out without moving the car...

For a new, one owner car I'd expect it to be warranty.

For a second hand car, where even the seller probably doesnt know the history of how the vehicle, and more importantly the clutch has been treated, not a hope IMO.

A clutch can be burned out very easily in a matter of minutes, and meters if the wrong driver is behind the wheel.

Would you expect a tyre with sidewall damage to be covered under a warranty?

Well... every single engine part is "wear and tear" item. And that applies to pretty much anything on the Earth ;-)
If they provide warranty I'd assume it covers the engine/gearbox etc. If they don't cover eg. clutch or the flywheel then what is the point of the warranty at all? Pistons/valves/timing belt - they're all wear and tear and the same logic can be applied (ie. no warranty).

And that's why they're in business - you pay premium price but they take the risk (by giving you a warranty)

I'll try asking them (don't expect miracles and will probably go to audi anyway - and that'll be very expensive lesson).

Your warranty document will tell you exactly what is and isn't covered.
