Is my air compressor on the way out?

    Air supply is fine, but when it's running there's a sort of a rattling/vibrating noise, almost like something inside is a little loose and is banging off the housing.

    Any suggestions?

    Well they are noisy yokes at the best of times, but if there's more noise than usual it could be a bearing. Either way the bad news is that the noise won't go away by itself but will only get worse.:o

    I was being a bit vague.

    Yes, it's always been noisy, but the new noise has distinct metallic sound to it, so loose bearing sounds plausible.

    Are these thing economically fixable? Or is just time to buy a new compressor....it hasn't had that much use.

    Well if you're handy you could open it up and have a look. Bearings are cheap so could be a cheap fix.

    On the other hand Aldi/Lidl regularly have them for about €100.

    Have you always run it with the air filter and correct oil level?

    Description says Oilfree, so i'm gong to presume that's not that issue?

    On the Air filter, it does have ventilation at the back, and it's always been unobstructed, but not sure if that answers the question?

    Loose motor cooling propeller inside the body? But it could be bearings too...
    Is it still in warranty by any chance?

    What you can do is to open the back of the body and look inside. If everything looks OK, open the cylinder head and look in there. If it looks OK, use it until it dies. Remove the useful bits, like moisture trap and so on, dump the rest and buy a new one :p ...

    I suspect it's more likely the first one... just under two years old, so probably not.

    I'll take a deep breath and go find screwdriver.
