Looking for good reasonably priced sodablasting and powder coating for alloys in Munster.
Got two quotes yesterday for 350 way too steep! Wheels cost half that.

Any help appreciated they are 18inch rims.

350 is actually very reasonable for powder coating.

    Hardly.

E65 a wheel sounds more appropriate, as these wheels are mainly flat surfaced with no nooks or crannys for old paint to hide in.

Well, considering I used to repair alloys for a living, I know a little more about the market than you. The shape of the wheel and whether it has nooks or crannies has nothing to do with the time/price.

The going rate for a repair, and spray paint (Not powder coating) of a wheel used to be about 50 euro for a 15 inch wheel, increasing up to about 80-90 euro for an 18 inch wheel due to the extra paint and time needed. That's just spray painting and sanding.

Asking someone to sodablast (Which uses expensive blasting media), degrease, fill in the damaged areas, sand, prime, powder coat, bake, lacquer, bake again would to my mind be closer to about 150 a wheel. I've seen 2 sets done in Collins Engineering in Dublin recently, flawless work and up round the 700 mark.

You may have bought the wheels for less than 200 euro, but the work you're asking to have carried out carries a premium. Surely you factored that into the deal when comparing the price of a new set of 18's vs your under 200 euro damaged set?

Right you clearly do know more in fairness I am not going to argue with you there but I was talking to a mate from Scotland yesterday and he got his BMW M3 alloys sodablasted and powdercoated for 120pounds in Scotland and that was a dear price over there he said.

On another note 80-90 a wheel is ludacris pricing, that would be a dear price in these times to get a car panel painted by a panel beater which as we all can guess is away more prep work and attention to detail then what I'm requesting be done to the alloys. Oh and car panels are away bigger then any 18inch alloy.

And yes I did factor in the cost of a refurb when I purchased the wheels, I purchased them as they are a very rare wheel all over the world and got them for a steal.

No wonder most businesses are slack with work with celtic tiger prices! Hence why I put up this thread- Looking for someone who is value for money. :)

Celtic tiger price my hole. Do you know the profit I made doing a wheel for 80 Euro? 25 Euro. Two hours work, and I walked away with my hands in tatters from sandpaper for 25 euro. If I did 4, it'd take me 8 hours, my hands would literally be in bits for a few days after it.

You need to realise that the price is still reasonable even in today's market. Your 'friend in Scotland' might be exaggerating the price/found a place that was desparate for work. In Ireland there's only a handful of people doing blasting and powdercoating. In the UK you can take your pick in any city from several people doing it.

Ya but I still cant justify this a mate got 13inch rims sodablasted and podercoated for 120 a few weeks back, the same firm wanted nearly 3 times that price off me. I know I've a bigger wheel but three times the price?

If I sanded them myself what would be a good price for a company to powdercoat them in your opinion?

Yup, 13 vs 18, substantial increase in time and materials used. How much are the wheels originally you're looking to buy brand new, originally?
