Can't sit Kings Inns this year - help needed!

    Hi,

So, I just finished my finals but I missed one exam as I was very sick. I went to apply for the Kings Inns yesterday but realized that I can't sit the entrance exams as I won't have all my results by July 1st.

So I have a year of dead time looming and I'm no spring chicken (I changed career mid-twenties so I'm really late getting out).

I don't really know what to do now as this wasn't planned for. I was hoping you guys might have some ideas / suggestions as to programmes / opportunities etc that I could apply for to make the best out of the year? I don't mind travelling anywhere in the world.

    Thanks for your help!

    S

Have you spoken to KI and asked them what the story is with sitting the exams provisionally?

Do a masters. It'll be worth it if you get down and realise the bar isn't as great as you thought it'd be.

I'm not trying to be pessimistic, but IMO it's the biggest mistake people make - I can't count the number of times I've head "ah sure you only need a masters degree if you're going into academics". Total nonsense IMO.

Pursue either a masters or try to get some relevant work as a legal secretary or legal executive somewhere. Either will stand to you in the future and will be a good use of your year.

First port of call is to go into the King's Inns to see if there is any way you can sit the exams or provisionally put your name down. They arent likely to turn their nose up at 13 grand!

    Hi All,

    Thanks for your help!

I have contacted the Kings Inn's to ask them to use their discretion to allow me to sit the exams provisionally, but I won't find out what the result is for a month. TBH my gut feeling is that it is likely to be a no go.

I'd love to do a masters but I'm not sure that I can afford it on top of the Kings Inns (assuming they are next year). I will have a look.

I have scoured the internet for all types of jobs and internships (even the most tangentially law-related) and have been applying wildly for them all.

Anyway, thanks again for your help, and if anyone can think of anything else that would be useful or helpful to do I'm all ears.
