After the long IPL tournament it would be rest for India players as they have home series with New Zealand and England starting from August. Is there any possible chance for India to regain there No.1 spot in Test if they win both series

No. Not a single chance that India can retain the No 1 test side ranking at all.

[Pedantic Pratt] To retain something you have to be in possession of it in the first place. Only the current holders of the world number one spot can retain it. Do you mean regain the world number spot?) [/Pedantic Pratt]

But they are only 5 points behind England as South Africa and england have same ratings and Australia 1 point ahead. If they whitewash both the series, then it has a chance

New Zealand won't be a problem. Sadly England for the first time in ages will travel to India knowing they have better spinners...

Also concerning for India while watching the IPL, very few good Indian bowlers to be seen. Again its a different format and all that but its still a concern.

Batting wise I like Rahene, Pujara and I'd fancy Rohit to do well in home conditions. Can Laxman and Sehwag get it together in time for the England series and can Dhoni bring himself to care about Test Cricket?:(

What may be worth keeping an eye on is their upcoming A tour against the West Indies

    Squad

Cheteshwar Pujara (capt), Wriddhiman Saha (vice-capt), Abhinav Mukund, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary, Rahul Sharma, Ashok Dinda, Jalaj Saxena, RP Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Robin Bist, Akshay Darekar, Shami Ahmed

How can India possibly retain first when they are not even first at the moment?

They are currently ranked 4th behind England, South Africa and Australia by the ICC in test cricket.

Despite the arrogance of the BCCI and the Indian fans, top spot in the rankings isn't simply "theirs" as you put it either.

India have about as much chance of regaining the no: 1 ranking in test cricket than I have of playing for India

    NONE WHATSOEVER

Not with the current bunch of players and the crooks who run the BCCI

We have lost Dravid and by looking at the way Indian players commitment for their IPL teams it looks like they dont give a damn about National team anymore. Ashwin was diving all over the place and for India he wouldn't touch ground.

We need a big chages and hopefully likes of Umesh Yadhav, Varun will get chances.
