On Thursday May 23rd 2012 at approximately 5:30pm our wonderful pet budgie escaped our house. He stayed around the yard for hours following other birds around and trying to make friends and after 4hours of trying to lure him back he flew off with a flock of black birds. His name is Freddie Mercury and his owners are completely heartbroken and worried about his safety in the wild. He is very much hand tamed and would fly over and land on a strangers shoulders.

Freddie is a lovely bluefish grey colour with a white face

If you'd posted this in AH you would have about ten pages of very obvious Queen lyric puns now. I'm impressed and surprised by the Galway City posters' restraint.

Have to admit when I saw this a few hours ago I thought "dammit, why can't this be on AH". As it wasn't, I kept my beak shut

They are nomadic flocking birds so the chances are that they are far away by now.

You could try putting the bird cage in the middle of your backyard, full of bird food and drink, with the door open.

BTW: Your photos do not show up for me sldonnie

They don't show up for me either, but how many budgies do you reckon you're likely to spot flying around?

sorry to hear that. if he does come into the garden its a good idea to place an open a cage in the garden to attract him. unfortunately there are a lot of predators like magpies about.

you would not say that if it were your pet or something dear to you.

    An afterthought.

It might also be wise to beg, borrow or steal a net of some sort, like a fishing landing net, and keep it handy in case Freddy shows up and does not want to enter the cage.

    Any developments yet sldonnie ?
