Anybody heard much about this movie? It appears to have slipped in under the radar. A new action packed Van Damme movie that isn't the Expendables.

The ad below seems to show every action piece in the movie.

    From IMDB:

    t. Jude Square is a neighborhood living in fear and despair. The dueling gangs of local kingpins Dash and Antuan terrorize the streets and the citizens live without a shred of hope... until mysterious stranger Ryan Hong (Cung Le) arrives in town. He begins to play one gang against the other using his unparalleled martial arts skills, and by calling on the teachings of his brilliant mentor Tiano (Jean-Claude Van Damme) to find the strength to battle back. However, just as he begins to bring the community under control, Hong is confronted by Mr. V, the town's ruthless and corrupt police chief. At first Mr. V is impressed by Hong's skill, but soon sees Hong as a threat to his regime, and the two warriors are locked in a head-to-head battle, pitting the fear and corruption of Mr. V's regime versus the new beginning Hong represents for the people of St. Jude Square. Van Damme's role is tiny, it's little more than a cameo and involves little in the way of kicking ass. He does deliver a very good performance in his brief screen time and shows that JCVD wasn't a fluke.

The story is another remake of Yojimbo. There's really nothing to it and at times it appears that Hyams is trying to stretch out a 30 page script to feature length. There are some very stylish directorial flourishes, the opening credits are great. As expected from Hyams, the action is fast paced and well shot. It's not quite as good as in his Universal Soldier but its certainly superior to most recent action films.

For a Friday night with some beers and pizza it's not a bad watch is certainly far from a great film. It's part of the After Dark Action films series, the quite decent Transit came out last week and Stash House with Dolph Lundgren is out next week.
