Do not drive as usually you do. Please make sure you are in TEST mode.

Just to share some experience so that fewer people would make the same mistakes as I did, which means more people can benefit from the discount.

    I failed because:

Drove at 70 kph trying to keep up with the 80 kph traffic, while the speed limit is 60 kph.

Drove fast in the back road trying to keep up with the traffic (NO, you have to watch out and react to every road sign even though the traffic ahead is driving very fast and the car behind you is driving up your ass).

Didn't slow down enough for ramps whiling others didn't either.

Even a modern Yaris is not as nice to drive as an old Clio. The steering and gear change are so artificial.

I saw somebody said Ignition was a test of real world driving skills. We all follow the traffic in Irish roads, but we are not expected to do the same for the driving test. Just to clarify that it is a copy of the driving test and I did reverse around corner as well.

Good luck to everybody and wish you all pass.

So you failed for speeding, twice and horsing over speed ramps.... Just because everyone else is breaking the law does not mean you have to follow suit especially when you have a tester from your insurance company in the passenger seat!!

Not on a high horse because i do the same but that was just stupid!

Yeah I don't mean to sound high horse but I don't think breaking the law while your insurance person is in the car is a good plan

edit: i wasn't saying the poster above me was high horse - but i know that's the usual accusation ;)

    Epic.

I failed Ignition because my Insurance rep was unimpressed with me speeding and hammering over speed ramps !

For the love of dear god !

Dude ... thats just bad driving, you drive like that all the time ?

I'd never say "becuase everyone else was doing it" it would make me sound like a tit.

I did see a reply on a similar thread saying "keep up with the traffic if others break the speed limit". I am just trying to help.

What I did was wrong, and I am just here to clarify that
    you can not break the speed limit to follow the traffic;
you are expected to over react to the road signs.

I know this sounds like common sense. But here in north Dublin I experienced overtaking from the left lane or sounding horn or driving up ass just because I followed the 50kph limit. And I respected the road signs in narrow N road while I was travelling to other counties, but local drivers always overtake me and they did not slow down that much for bends as I did. I did exactly what the instructor told me. But I learn from most road users since I got the licence.

Maybe it is just me, but I find we do not follow the rules in Ireland as in Germany or even UK.

About the speeding thing. I did break the speed limit once, on N1 besides the M1 tunnel where literally nobody follows the speed limit of 60kph. The speed limit is 50 as you approach Collins Ave from N1, however, nobody is below 60 for sure. In fact it is dangerous if you drive at 50 on the slip road to merge into N1 from Shantalla road. I am not saying I am right and I do hope people respect the speed limit.

On the back road, I did not break the speed limit. I think he expected me to react to the road signs of "series of bends ahead" by slowing down a lot.

Thank you all for the safety advice. Again, I hope all pass the test and I hope all the drivers can obey the rules and laws 100% on the road. Believe it or not, as a new driver I kinda fancy that way.

OP why did you post all your failings on boards when there is a very good chance you will get slammed by other people on it , you have got to be new to the world of boards

    I am newbie indeed.

As a new driver, I followed the advice of "keep up with the traffic" and "real world driving is different than test driving" from god knows some where. As long as there is one person who benefits from my stupid experience, I am happy enough. In the Internet, I have nothing to lose.

Thank you and I appreciate what you are trying to say.

People on the Internet can be different than people we deal with in the real world. Considering what I mentioned in the last reply, I do wish all the people can drive and behave as such in the real world.

Heading into the city, there is generally always a GATSO van or a Kojak with a Kodak (Garda Speed Gun) and heading North there is generally a Kojak with a Kodak.

I'd say the same thing to you in a pub if you came out with that friend. Nothing personal :)

I did the ignition course years ago..... 2003 I think it was. The guy doing it was sound. Told me there had to be a level of give.... ie: dont slam on for a box junction and tip the speed over a little bit if needed.... "Little Bit"

At the end of the day, if you have a car up your backside wanting to get by and you are doing the limit on a single lane road then it's their problem and not yours. Don't feel pressured by idiots (like me and a lot of other always late people) who try and push by. Sh1t happens, act accordingly :)

I failed my first test for two items, one of which was not keeping up with traffic which /was/ travelling in excess of the speed limit. Traffic was doing about 35 on the Tramore Road in Cork, speed limit was 30. So there. Mind you, that was in MPH, and about 20 years ago....

I failed for "nearly causing an accident because of lack of progress". I was travelling at 60 in a built-up area which was the posted limit. Some boyracer in a Subaru was tailgating me for a few seconds before overtaking across a solid white line, into oncoming traffic (forcing them to swerve) near a roundabout in a scummer part of North Dublin. I braked as he overtook me to allow him get back onto the correct side of the road quicker. 4 people took the test that day, all failed.

I got zero faults (Grade 1,2,3) on my driving test. I've driven over 150,000 miles now accident free and insurance is 225 euro a year with a different company.

Aviva ignition test is a load of **** in my opinion.
