Thinking of doing this course next year. Anyone who does it/has dont it have any words of advice?

Also, if I wasnt sure whether I wanted to do accounting or not, would this be a good choice?

I've done 2 years of it so far. It's very broad in the sense that there's exposure to CS subjects, Engineering subjects, Business subjects as well as the purely MSISS statistical subjects. It's geared mainly around using different quantitative techniques to solve business type problems. The freshman years are quite general while some extra specialisation does take place in the sophister years.

Teamwork is essential as is a reasonable level of numerical aptitude (hence the requirement of higher level maths). As regards accounting, there's quite a good introductory model in second year with BESS people that focuses mainly on analysis of accounts, though there is some manual preparation of the main financial statements. There's further optional modules available in the sophister years.

There's quite a decent website for more information here: https://www.scss.tcd.ie/undergraduate/msiss/

Thanks a lot for that. Looking like I'll be doing it next year:) Would you recommend it?

I would personally. It's quite challenging and has good job prospects. It's not for everyone though.

This may sound an odd question, but when you say "its not for everyone", who is it for? Obviously mathsy type people, but what other interests? I like technology and whatnot, but Im not sure if Im really into programming. Having said that, Ive never had any connection with programming in my life!

    ****e question, I know!

It isn't for mathsy people either. Read the module outlines on the website he linked to get a decent idea of what the course content/progression is.

If you're interested in Accounting, you need to look at what courses offer the best dispensations for accountancy qualification exams.

Do a search, several threads on the course already, I've posted in a few of them.

Would any of ye current MSISS students know what they are doing with numbers?

Are they reducing it from 40 to 24? They said at Open Day that they are changing numbers but didn't say up or down.............
