Summer Clean Up!

    Hi folks,

Alas it looks like the good weather is here (well for a few days anyway). I have begun the Summer clean up of my garden - its got itself into fairly bad disarray (my fault).

Basically what I have is a square garden with an "L" shaped flower bed around one corner (garden is approx 6m x 6m).

The flower bed is pretty much covered now by weeds - with some plants having survived.

    My plan is as such:

    - Pretty muych dig up the entire flower bed (bar surviving plants) - dig up at least 3inchs of top soil.

    - Replant any bulbs that are currently in ground.

    - Lay some mulch (bark) down in an attempt to avoid weed growth.

    Just a few questions:

    - Is there a need to lay a fabric over earth before bark?

    - The bulbs I replant - will they come up through the bark next spring?

    - If i do put down a fabric, what about the bulbs - cut an opening - will they grow?

Any advise on the above would be greatly appreciated!

Hope everyone is enjoying their gardens in this weather!

    Mac
