What do you think? It is frowned upon to start a thread without contributing to it.

lol Kilkenny 2009 isnt even the best team of the last 10 years.

KK 2006 - present are certainly the best I have ever seen, but I am reliably told by a few old codgers that the Tipp team of the 60's would have given them a fair run for their money.

Like in any sport though it is a bit of a pointless excercise as you cant compare generations as so much has changed, but I think it is widely accepted that those two teams are the best of all time.

There's no question that the game is faster and of a higher standard now, so with all due respect to that great Tipp team the current Kilkenny team would be likely to beat them comfortably.

Like you say though it's hard to compare acroos generations like that. No doubt if John Doyle and Christy Ring had access to modern facilities, training methods, levels of fitness etc they'd probbaly still do pretty well.

But I don't think thete can be any argument that the Kilkenny team of the last 6 years or so is the best there has been. They've raised the bar and set a very high standard for everyone else to aim at. So far only Tipp have come close. Their performance against Waterford in the '08 final was as near to perfection as it gets, even allowing for the fect that Waterford bombed on the day.

Anyone who disagrees with me that standards are higher now, just watch a re-run of the 2010 final between Kilkenny and Tipp and then watch a re-run of an old final from the 60s. There's no comparison. The skill level, fitness levels and the pace of the game are so much higher now.

Cork hurlers won 4 in row in 1940's and also 3 in row in 1970's deserve a mention.

    Was not around though:pac:

Arguing with a moderator is against the forum charter. Infraction given.

Also seeing as you did not engage in a discussion, thread locked.
