Looking for ideas for finding short-term employment

    Hello,

perhaps this isn't going into enough detail, but would you have suggestions on where to look for short-term employment? (What comes to mind: local shops, casual work for local events, office admin....)

This is for my wife. She is working in an agency contract, and is always looking for work. But specifically in this case, she's pregnant, and would need to be working in PRSI-covered employment within 16 weeks of her due date to be covered by maternity benefit. As it stands, her current agency contract will end several weeks too early to be able to qualify for that benefit. She's looking for some short-term work (at the least) which would help her qualify.

    Thanks for your ideas.

    Whytis.

It sounds like she is in the early stages of pregnancy? Then she could look for a more permanent position and go on leave from it - obviously people can't discriminate against someone who is pregnant but they might anyway, so if she is in the early stages she would be better getting one longer contract than trying to pick up 4 weeks here, 6 weeks there and so on.

Edit suggestion: semi state admin - keep an eye on their websites as they don't use 3rd party ones, such as the Universities, there are often fixed term contracts coming up

@Sala - Thanks for the tip about the semi-state admin jobs.

Yes, she's quite early on, but the pregnancy is beginning to show. I would be surprised if she found a permanent job now (even though people can't discriminate, but in the end it does come down to your qualifications, disposition and all that).

Any other ideas for where to get short-term PRSI-covered employment?
(Yes, she's still aiming higher than this, but this seems to be the minimum requirement.)
