once folk are INTO music, they start to branch out.

when I was a kid I just wanted to play guitar.

    then I got a bass.....then a mandolin....followed by a bouzouki.... and a tenor guitar.

there were harmonicas, pennywhistles, and flutes around too.....

so as of today I can say that I can actually PLAY guitar, bass, bouzouki, tenor guitar and mandolin.

I can bluff with banjo, harmonica, pennywhistle, and piccolo

does left handed guitar count as a seperate instrument?

cos I can play a LITTLE bit of upside down lefty, purely to annoy the lefty gits who say "of COURSE I'd let you play it, but it's a lefty....."

so c'mon folks, who plays what?

I'm primarily a bass player (4, 5 and 6 string) but I also play guitar (6, 7 and 8 string) and I can do a passable impression of someone who can play the drums ;). I've also recently started learning how to play keyboards.

God bless you all, I can't even play Guitar, after close on 20yrs. But if I knew the chords I could fumble through on the bass, pass muster on the drums and maybe, just maybe pass on the guit.

Guitar. I did play bass for a couple of years in blues-rock band, which afforded me ample opportunity to check out the talent. Root notes. :D

Started out playing piano when I was six or seven, picked up the violin a few years later.
Then started playing guitar around 13, and bass (five string, can't stand fours. :( ) a few years ago, as well as drums.
Over the years I've learned to play other stuff too (Flute, clarinet, accordian, ocarina among other things), but I'll be the first to admit I'm rusty as hell on those.

These days, I'm mostly focusing on Bass, but still playing a lot of Guitar, Drums and the odd bit of keys.

I just wish I was decent at them all. :pac:

    .then a mandolin....followed by a bouzouki

Cool...I played guitar for years but I just started learning to play the mandolin - I have an octave mandolin (slightly smaller than a bouzouki)

What kind of music do you play on these yokes? I got into it mainly from the likes of Andy Irvine and Planxty.

Agreed, there just aren't enough hours in the day sometimes.

Guitar and harmonica. I am mainly a vocalist though. Can play chords and a few licks on the mandolin too but no longer own one

I play the guitar mainly, but I can also play bass.

I've recently been playing a lot of ukulele too, and that's a lot of fun! I can play a few chords on the piano, though I'd like to eventually take it up properly.

I eventually want to learned more stringed instruments, maybe a banjo or a mandolin.

Violin since I was 3 - Suzuki method rocks!
    6/7 Guitar since I was bout 16
6 String Bass for about 2 years now.

Being able to play the Violin gives you a damn good grounding in the Mandolin/Banjo too. I also mess about with Piano, can play a couple of classical songs, but I'm no pro by any means.

I'd love to play the drums, but I have no co-ordination at all.

Mostly bass and some vocals these days. Also oscillators/electronics if that can be called an instrument and guitar at home for writing and testing pedals but not confident or competent enough at all for playing out with others.

Piano/keys primarily for 12 or so years
    Guitar for 5
    Bass for 5
Tried drums briefly, and failed miserably
    Ukulele for 2 years

Tried mandolin last night, albeit a righty one. Looks like I might be on to something here!

Guitar and bass mainly, know a few chords on the ukulele and piano, mess around with the drums occasionally, the odd synth part for recording etc.

Jack of all trades, master of none comes to mind :P

Guitarist who's spent more time playing bass in groups at this stage. Mostly I just listen to other people playing and try capture that with as little harm done as possible. I do own a banjo and a synthesizer also!

I'm enjoying the old timey banjo thing lately, but I only play these days to remind myself of how hard it is. Playing in band's became all too serious and lost it's attraction for me a few years ago. These days I spend all my money on bicycles instead!!!

    hipster-kitty-yeah-im-in-a-band-i-play-laptop.jpg

Started out on guitar, learned some drums and piano, now I mostly play synthesisers and guitars and sequence/trigger drum patterns in a band. Been doing a bit of computer processing of my guitar lately, which I hope to get much more creative with soon. The computer's where it's at folks ;)

I play guitar mainly. It's my favourite and main focus really. I also play bass, which is a lot of fun and good for easy gigs! I can drum and play a little bit of keys too but I really just tinker with them. I also have played some ukele, banjo, bouzouki and mandolin but they are pretty much the same as guitar with a few new shapes to learn!
I'm really getting the itch to learn another instrument, I'd love a go at flute or sax but both seem like a decent investment would have to be made to get a nice instrument to learn on. To get the money I'd have to lay off the guitar purchases for a good while!

    Piano for nearly 12 years
    Guitar for about 4 years
    Ukulele for 3 years
Cello and bass for one year (not well)
Irish flute for about 3 months

And really dabbling in tin whistle, xylophone and any instrument I can lay my hands on :D
