    The 7850 is probably better overclocked.

    The 7870 is definitely better.

    1GB of VRAM is fine for 95% of current games at 1080p, I think only BF3 uses about 1.5GB at ultra. Newer games will probably start using more and more as its available though.

    And yes, the 7870 is a better buy especially when overclocked.

    Much better that it's worth the extra tenner?

    300 is stretching my budget, I was looking at cards in the 250 range.

    Yes. There are cheaper ones, such as this Sapphire.

    if 300 is stretching the budget then a 7850 would fit in good at only 226. will play all games fine and overclocks like a champ.
