Passat uncomfortable comfortline 2008

Bit of an odd post, but an issue was raised from my Dad about his Passat 08' 1.9tdi comfortline.

Being a comfortline and a car that is designed for long journeys you would think you could drive for hours in it, but no, hes complaining of getting a numb bottom after an hours driving.

I thought it was his driving position and suggested to try different positions but every different position is the same, numb bottoms after an hour.

So we had to go for a journey up to the north, so I drove and see what the crack is with it, low and behold...numb bottom ahoy!

We are both slim build by the way if that helps.

I'm actually shocked about this, how has this passed testing??

My theory is there is no side bolster supports for your bottom, it is flat. Saying that, Ive been in the back of the car and had no issues..but In the passenger seat we both get numb bottoms including my mum too.

So guys any suggestions, similar compliants??

I have one and find it very comfortable to be honest.

Sell it and buy something suitable?

Not very strange, I've been in a few uncomfortable cars and would end up with a sore arse, sore thighs, numb legs... Worst I think was a Micra (I think it was a Micra) a bar going across the rear bench meant when I got up I couldn't feel anything below my thighs and promptly fell over when getting out!

A friend of mine had an 07 Highline Passat and it was comfy to drive... Have you had problems like this with other cars? Might be worthwhile sourcing seats from a hugher spec car or changing for a higher spec car

I find sports general more comfortable. Better back support etc.

No idea why you have it to be fair.

I have a 2010 Comfortline, same model, same seat albeit electric(not sure if 2008s were) and I do about 1400kms per week in it and often do 2.5hr+ drives in it.

Always thought it was very comfortable. In saying that my car is right now in a VW dealership because the shocked failed on it so my car was a little more uncomfortable that yours of late. :p

Anyway, the fact you know your mother gets a numb bottom is slightly disturbing. Knowing about or discussing your mothers bottom is slightly taboo, no? ;)

It could be the seating position of both seats to be fair either that or you are all an odd shaped family. :D

Cars and seating are unique to the individual. Have tried a few and find the Focus very comfortable... strangely even more comfortable than the Mondeo.:D Have driven more expensive cars and still find the same. Don't find the Passat particularily comfortable, think the seating is too low:rolleyes:

I had a 2006 comfortline. I am also slim (was very skinny for a while) and found it very uncomfortable.

Mainly though, it was back support and lack thereof.

You could get your Dad to buy some decent after market seat cushions with good support. Will also reduce wear and tear on the seat also.

I had a 2000 comfortline and in the end I got rid of it purely because of those awful, tortuous seats. My back was in bits from it, and I've never had back problems before that car or afterwards. I had forgotten the bum issue, but I had exactly the same thing as the OP too. Never buying anything from that stable again until the seats have a radical overhaul!

    Great assortment of replies!!

I've had no problems in my previous golf and my current golf, been up and down to dublin ,over to the uk with no issues!

I'm currently wondering is the seat too low should you legs be straight and not sloping down at an angle?

Well, hes thinking his next car might an audi and I've told to get the sports seats!!

Car seat covers are an option, Ive seen full leather seats with door card for sale on donedeal..that might be an option??

my Volvo is great .... I'd be crippled after a few hours driving in my old Mk1 Octavia.

Did 3 hours straight from Calais to Eindhoven and no numb bump and I barely have one as it is :D

Saying that though it can depend on seat adjustment too.
