DNA Tests

    Hi People,
Does any one know anything about DNA tests? I have a situation in a chapter of my current opus where a child born by AID turns up on her father's doorstep. They are going to get a DNA test, so what I need to know is if 2 consenting adults want to get a DNA test how would they go about it. Is it say, available at your local G.P. and how long would it take.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Miranda.

DNA testing is done by special clinics. A GP might refer you but it is hardly the sort of thing you go to your local doctor for. If this story is set in the present would they not just do what everybody does if they want a confidential service and Google it?

Well actually you can buy them in Boots (in the UK at least). You swab the inside of the cheek of each party, seal them and they get sent off to a lab in England and the results get posted back to you or you can ask them to ring. Costs a few hundred though.

I wouldn't be surprised if GPs did them too, but they need to be processed at a specialist lab and I'm not sure if there's one in Ireland.

Actually OP, here you go. One in Ireland. Hope this helps.

Thanks to all three of you for your reply. Actually I did google it but came up with nothing useable. But Kitty that site you posted looks like it will give me all the info I want. Thanks again.

    Miranda.
