I stayed in this place (Duca di York) a few years ago and found it good, was reluctant to recommend it because of the time lag but it has good reviews on tripadvisor - it's ranked #16 of 441 hotel in Milan. It might be at the high end of your budget but the location is excellent, it's close to a Metro station and within walking distance of the Piazza del Duomo, the cathedral square which is the tourist epicentre of Milan.

Breakfast is pretty basic by UK/Irish hotel standards, don't expect a buffet of rashers, sausages etc. You'll get plenty of coffee and orange juice and a few croissants and that's it.

Stayed at Chateau Monfort a few weeks ago; can get good deals but very much better than mid priced equivalent.

I vaguely recall "Hotel Aosta" in Piazza Aosta near Centrale F.S.

I did not regard it as great.
HRS a German Hotel Reservation System evaluates it as "only passable".

I've seen better for the same price in Bozen, Palermo and Catania.

However it was a hot summer's week. I was stuck at the time and glad to get a room.
