Just wondering if anyone knows of any dealers in the Munster area that will do a straight swap? I'm driving a 00 avensis TD 2l diesel, it's in perfect condition and I love it to bits but can't afford the tax :( Don't have the time to go selling it and looking for another to buy so I'm looking for a garage that would do a straight swap for something with a smaller engine.

wouldn't be much in it for the dealer with a straight swap, best bet is donedeal as people are always looking for a cheap run around, I bet you will sell it in a flash.

You might be better off putting your car on Donedeal and advertise it as a straight swop.
No harm in calling into a few garages and asking, nothing ventured nothing gained as they say.
What part of Munster are you in?

That sounds to me like spending euros to save cents, TBH.

Do your sums before doing anything. If you do a decent amount of mileage, changing down to a smaller car that you don't know the history of may not make much sense. If the avensis is reliable, and economical you'd be mad to get rid for the sake of a couple of hundred max per year.

I'm in limerick :) might stick it up on donedeal and see but I'd much rather just driving it in somewhere and driving out in something else how lazy of me  I'd take anything driveable now at this stage, 3rd month driving with no tax I'm living in fear of the guards.....

Unless you have an 11d BMW/Mercedes and are buying a new Micra then I can't see any dealer doing any kind of swap

Your car is probably worth €2k max, and considering the garage will want to make a few quid back on it I cant see you driving away with much, if indeed they want to take it at all. Youd be better off sticking it on DoneDeal priced to sell quickly, then going into a garage with cash in hand and see what you can get; its more effort but youll almost certainly get a better deal.

Lets go hypothetical for a second.......

If you car could fetch €2k then you can bet that any dealer willing to do a straight swap will give you something that fetches €1.25/1.5k as a swap. So you loose €750/500. That's €€€ that could be yours.

Sell it. Buy something with the proceeds which maybe a wee bit better or else pocket the difference.

The only one who will benefit from a swap is the dealer.

    I agree with colm_mcm - nowhere near €2k.

Surely the fuel savings will be enough to cover the additional tax compared to a 1.4 corolla or something?

And there is no guarantee that what you will be offered will have tax on it. At that end of the market cars tend to be move on once the tax is out.

Put it on adverts.ie. Nobody over there actually has money to spend so you are bound to be bombarded with swap offers.

Personally I think you could be taking on trouble, no guarantee the car you swap it for will be trouble free. What you save on tax could easily double up on maintenance.
