I work in a cafe and my boss recently came up and said to me "smile". Fair enough, but she said that I have to smile all the time, customers or not. She was dead serious. I said no and a now trip to the office tomorrow awaits.

Is this completely and utterly insane?

When I was younger I was told to look more "happy" in some crappy random retail job. I just said sure and didnt give a toss what the manager said :P

But I know where you are coming from. Can feel a little insulting - "like what you're saying i looked depressed or something?!?" type of thing. I know its too late now but you really should of just said "sure", walked away calling them something in your mind.

But as for tomorrow. Pass it off as you were having a bad day, say maybe you found it a tad insulting but blah blah blah but you have no problem / sell it off as no big deal. While walking out the door call call them something in your mind.
