Going on holidays this year and have narrowed it down to Sitges near Barcelona or the city of Las Palmas in Gran Canaria. Just wondering if anyone has any info on either of these places.

I heard Sitges is meant to be really nice but that the majority of the bars and clubs are gay and well nobody coming with me is gay. So any info on the nightlife or just Sitges in general would be good. Is it very touristy etc.

And Las Palmas, as it is a city, are the beaches good? Is it a beach/touristy kind of place? I know in Gran Canaria a lot of of people head south to Playa de Ingles but Las Palmas looks good.

    Thanks

Don't know about Sitges, but I really like Las Palmas. It's a fairly compact city with some beautiful architecture and enough to keep you occupied for a couple of days. I don't know about spending an entire holiday there though. Beaches around it aren't great, but the best of them (as in at least they're sandy) are one on the west of the city between the two marinas (can't remember the names, it's been a while) and one to the east of the port, along Paseo de las Canteras. Neither have great facilities and the first of those I listed feels like it's in a shipping lane as it looks out directly on a cargo terminal!

As for being touristy, it's not really. There's good shopping as you'd expect in a city and there's not so much tourist tat or Irish/English bars. Great restaurants serving local food.

A lot of residents of Las Palmas take weekends away down south around Maspalomas, Meloneiras and Puerto Rico. I'd guess that's something to do with the beaches!
