Yes, that insane-looking MMA fighter above is indeed Matthew Fox. James Patterson‘s best-selling detective series (which originally starred Morgan Freeman as Cross in Kiss The Girls and then Along Came a Spider) is getting the reboot and we’ve got the first stills today. Alex Cross, directed by Rob Cohen (xXx, Stealth), is toplined by Tyler Perry and also features Fox, Edward Burns, Rachel Nichols, Giancarlo Esposito and Jean Reno.
Burns plays partner to Cross, who need to track down Fox’s character Michael Sullivan, a ruthless assassin who murders Cross’ wife. While it does share a title with the 16th book in the series, it’s said to be a mostly original story. The first stills hint at what could be a a fun crime drama, but hopes aren’t too high when it comes to Cohen at the helm. Nonetheless, check them out above and below.

Looks different alright, a bit freaky.

The James Patterson books are pretty terrible, I wouldn't expect much from the film - original idea or not.

So they pretty much just gave away the whole film in the trailer.

Think i'll give this a miss, I usually am willing to give films a chance, but it looks terrible.

Had the misfortune of catching this today. Went in expecting a half decent procedural that would kill a few hours on a dreary Sunday afternoon but it's all so inept that it doesn't even work as a trashy 100 minutes of turn off your brain action. Every single aspect of the film is flawed. The acting is terrible, Perry in particular is beyond a joke and I found myself feeling sorry for him but even season pros like Reno and McGinley were embarrassing.

The story was ridiculous and make little sense, was almost as if someone had edited down a six part mini series into 100 minutes. You could easily trim 60 minutes from the film and lost nothing of note. Dialogue is cliched and unrealistic, Cross's deductions are ridiculous and contrived and worst of all there isn't a hint of wit or originality to any of it.

Throw in bargain basement CGI, dull action scenes and a sense that everyone was there solely for a quick pay check and you ahve one of the most uninspired and dull films of the year.

I imagine that when casting Alex Cross the conversation went something like this.

Studio Exec #1: So we got the rights to a relatively successful if poorly written series of crime novels previously brought to cinemas starring Morgan Freeman.

Studio Exec #2: excellent, we should rush it into production immediately. lets get a competant and skilled action director and lets get Idris Elba for the
    starring role.

    A month later....

Studio Exec #2: Great news regarding the Alex Cross film, we got Idris Elba onboard and Rob Cohen to direct.

Studio Exec #1: good, Cohen is a decent director who can handle action but I'm not sure about Elba. He may be one of the finest actors working today but he's not a star.

Studio Exec #2: Hmmmmm, we need an African American actor who can command the screen and guarantee box office.

The Execs look at one another and in an instance of inspired genius their eyes meet and the same brilliant idea comes to them at the sane time.

    "TYLER PERRY"

Studio Exec #1: its genius. He can't act a damn, hell he's not even the best African American actor who plays old black matriarchs but by God black audiences will flock to anything he puts his name to.

Studio Exec #2: Maybe in the sequel he can go undercover as an angry old Black woman who doles out advice to all around her.

what is Fox like in this?
Seeing the physical work that he did, for this role, I would actually hope that he managed to pull some kind of good performance.

Fox isn't half bad, his transformation is quite impressive and his performance is decent but the script and dialogue is just so poor that you barely notice him. Really is a shame that he put so much effort in for such a piss poor film as no one is going to notice him

the shaky cam while yerone was tracking the car on the computer was a real standout point in the show:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:,

the film fails on every level, they do a shakey cut/split scene to indicate something dramatic has just happened and then dont bother showing it,

when they arrive at the big building, the armed guards tell them to **** off and get out of the building they are all highly trained ex-military people, then the water pressure drops and they just hand cross a shotgun:rolleyes::rolleyes:

bring back freeman, and how did a guy who has STEALTH and XXX on his resume get his hands on an alex cross film, cohens last and in any way half decent film was fast and furious,

Cohen isn't a bad director, he handles action well and knows his way around a set piece. The script for Cross is just so bad that no one could make it work and casting Perry meant that the whole thing was doomed to fail. Not even Michael Mann could take those two elements and make something watchable.

Tbf, the two Cross films Morgan Freeman was in were pretty poor too imo.

They were poor but performances were good, there was a sense of mystery to it and they had some decent set pieces. Alex Cross on the other hand isn't even watchable in a turn off your brain and just enjoy it for what it is. It's actually quite shocking how such a poorly made feature actually got such a wide release.

American comedian who has inexplicably popular movies that do no business outside of the USA, imagine him as Martin Lawrence but less funny.

    imagine that.

I quite liked "Kiss the Girls"

The only thing that I know Tyler Perry from is as the Admiral in charge of Kirk's diciplinary hearing in 2009 Star Trek

What an absolutely abysmal film. Just so so bad. The end credits could not come soon enough.

    The script is just awful.

Also, the ending.. was that supposed to be a twist or what?? Just awful.

I think that I might just give this one a miss then?
