Hi I have a Philips 37" HD ready LCD tv that is 7 years old. I recently got sky Hd as it came with the Hd box but there is no USB outlet on the tv & the engineer said it wouldn't work. Is there anyway I can sort this, components or parts that will work??

This forum is for TV shows, not the hardware. I'll move this to the Home Entertainment forum.

You should be connecting the Sky box to the TV using a HDMI cable, the Quick Start Guide for the Sky HD box says that it ships with a HDMI cable. If you don't have a HDMI cable, you can buy one in Tesco or any electrical or TV shop, don't spend more than about €12 for a 1.5m cable.

If a TV has a USB port, it's for connecting an external hard disk drive or memory stick for playing movies, nothing to do with Sky HD.

Philips TVs from that era didn't always come with HDMI sockets. Usually they came with a DVI port which is technically the same except it doesn't carry the audio signal. You need a DVI male to HDMI adaptor. You will also need some way to get the audio from the Sky Box to the TV.

Can you post the Model Number of the TV so we can help you a bit more ?

OP, can you forget about USB please, that has nothing to do with your problem and is a complete red herring.

Ken (ZENER) above is correct, that model of Philips TV has no HDMI input, it does have a DVI female socket so you will need an adapter similar to this guy plus a regular HDMI cable.....

You will also need a separate cable for audio. Your TV has a 3.5mm input (labelled 'Audio In') beside the DVI port and the Sky box has phono (RCA) audio out sockets coloured red and white (you won't be using the yellow video socket) so you'll need this cable which any electrical shop will stock....

The plugs on the right are called RCA or phono plugs, you plug these into the Sky box, red to red and black to white. Don't plug them into any port that's coloured yellow or orange. The plug on the left goes into the TV socket labelled 'Audio In'.

You may end up with the picture and sound out of sync in which case you'll have to do a setup using the Sky setup menus, see the Sky manual for details.
