Art Scam

ok so this an experience i had recently that i feel people should know about.
i'm not using the site as a means to make a complaint to a company, as far as i'm concerned the issue is deadended, so i'm letting people know what happened with a certain company.

basically i'm recommending that if anyone is looking to get a number plate (or anything else) be wary of Art Scan.

    /start rant
Art Scan in the western parkway business park on the lower ballymount road in dublin do stuff including making number plates.
from the experience below i want to warn folks who may go there to get a reg plate or indeed anything else made.

i went in on friday afternoon just before the bank holiday. i went there because from what i'd seen their reg plate work was good quality.

anyway i paid the €20 fee and drew what i wanted on a sheet of paper, noting the font type etc. i explicitly communicated that i wanted a bog standard 100% legal plate, in the size of 9x3" for a motorbike.
i was told that's fine, it will be ready first thing next week.

i didnt get a call so i rang on either wednesday or thursday, to be told that the order was lost.........
so i had to give all the details again, over the phone.

so then i get a call, plate is ready. i dont live in dublin but my sister works there so she picked it up.
it turns out that it has WD instead of W (waterford city), so wrong reg basically. not to mention the font was not legal afaik, but definitely not the font i requested.

so i ring up this morning, explain the issue and offered to send the plate back for replacement. i was told all i have to do is email a the details of whats required. so i did. *pic below of what i asked for*

    artscamarewankers1.jpg

    pic of what i got

    artscamarewankers2a.jpg

then i got a call being told that im changing the font type from what was ordered, hence this will be a new order (read = will cost me another 20).
i contested that with the fact that the font on the example is the same as what i originally ordered (but they lost the order), and again what i asked for on the phone (standard legal font with no tails etc).
but of course i was met with argument that i'm changing the font which is a new order (going around in circles at this point).

so now as you can imagine i'm getting ticked off at this point, and i mentioned a mild cuss word (not even directed at him) on the phone when describing how the font i want is what's on 90 odd % of reg plates in the country.

he used that and said now you just used a curse word so im going to hang up (and he hangs up).

tbh i think he acted the moron on purpose to wind me up, walking me into his trap of getting me to use a bad word so he could end the correspondence on that note.

    /end rant

anyway, be aware. i'm left 20 quid out of pocket and no number plate, due to this amateur.

    Plate looks fine to me

Given that the email you sent shows a much longer shape than you'd fit on a motorbike, I can't see the issue.

apart from the WD instead of W?
    and the obviously different font?

obviously i can MS paint to scale, so i did specify 9x3" plate.

    Really?

Have a look at the first number plate and the notes that are written on top of it and then have a look at the second number plate...

    Outrageous.
tl/dr; customer orders plate, plate company fecks it up, customer complains, plate company fecks it up. Customer is out price of 2 pints and a packet of fags. Daily Mail launches investigation into "plate mis-selling scam". World does not end, despite peoples concerns for the future.

Apart from the WD being wrong, I can't see any guard having an issue with it. Obviously you shouldn't have to pay twice if the reg number is wrong, everything else seems fine.

Poor attitude on here. The OP is dead right. The service seems to be a joke and this is the kind of crap that makes simple deals a proper annoyance.

Doesn't matter what the Garda would think. OP specifically asked what he wanted and the company didn't deliver what customer wanted.

Poor service from start to finish. You paid your €20 up front and the order was lost. Then they start dickin with you over the phone. hassle. "Ah sure he'll be grand" attitude from the supplier.

    I agree with the OP.

It might have been easier to go to your local motor factors and see if they do the same job

I needed a replacement plate, cost me 12 and had it ready in two hours

    Just for future consideration

Totally agree with the OP, its easy to dismiss this because the deal is only €20 but the facts are the compnay got it wrong, shabby attention to detail.

    Wouldn't use them.

i already got a plate at the local, but it was very cheap looking. very unbecoming of the calibre of bike its on. i ordered one off the internets and it wasnt much better.

this is the reason i went out of my way to try art scan, i saw a few of their plates and they were good quality finish.

Are bike plates not done on the spot in motor factors like car ones?

a lot of motor factors dont do bike plates, and a lot of those that do, dont do the size i wanted 9x3".
i landed there at closing time friday evening so understood it wasnt going to be done on the spot

that is really ****ty, out of principle i would go back looking for another plate, when he starts on about the new order tell him to make it to the same spec as the last one but get the number right, or just cut your losses

http://www.a-zplates.com/ got a pressed metal number plate from these guys recently for a vespa and i was very happy with it, cost me €25 but well worth it.
