    Hi folks,

Quick question, my insurance company want to charge me €100 to amend my policy, basically i'm changing cars.

They say its an "admin fee" and my actual premium wont change .

Havent gone ahead with the change as the charge is so high and i'm wondering if its the same across all companies or are my lot just screwing me ?

Can i sell my car and cancel the insurance as i have no vehicle , wait a while and go shopping for a new policy ?

I know that will cost me a year NCB but i flat dont have the money to give them .

I find Aviva willing to drop charges like that when they're pushed a bit. Ring back a couple of times if you don't find someone who'll do it at first - you only have to be lucky once.

Like Anan1 said if you push them they might drop it. My ins comp charges €50 admin fee but even at €100 is it worth losing a year's NCB?

I added my fiance to my policy a few years back & they waived the €50 admin fee. Then I got a renewal (after we were married) & realised that they were rating her normally - ie 24 year old female on 1st provisional with no ncb.

I called them about it, mentioned that the policy said I can add a spouse for free. And they started with they must have a full license, over 25, etc.
So I told them its grand and I'll shop around for the house and car policies instead. Then they said they'll just run it again. It dropped a few hundred by rating wifey as my spouse and not a normal additional novice driver.

Challenge them, the worse they can do is say no....

Must be a new charge, I changed car last year and 123.ie didn't charge me anything. I'd definitely challenge it.

We've just changed both our cars and were charged nothing to change the policies. We're with the AA and insured with Chartis.

In fact, they gave us 7 days free insurance on one for the new cars as we still had the old one to sell and needed the insurance on it for test drives.

One of the new cars was cheaper to insure so we also get a refund!

Will be getting back onto them today . Cannot see how they can justify that amount in fairness. If they do force me to pay I wont be renewing with them

I have heard of admin fee's and I myself got duped by them for €45 a while back but €100????? Thats insane !

If they are insistent then I'd consider playing the old "How much money you could make from me if you treat me well card"
