Unplug the sky box from the wall, remove the sky card and then plug in again. DO NOT put the card back in. This should give you the basic free-to-air channels, BBC, ITV etc.

Should this work for all Sky boxes?
Sister has a Sky+ box about 4 years old and she cant get it working - it seems to keep RTE at 101 channel number and wont reset to the Freesat numbers. I dont know what the make of box is but can find out

This wont work on Sky+ HD boxes. The OP could get either a branded Freesat or Freesat+ box.

Or get a UK FTV Sky card as that will automatically load the UK epg onto the Irish Sky Hd boxes.

That would work also, For recording functions a Freesat HD + receiver would be a better option

You cannot record with a Sky box unless you have a subscription. Further to that any recording you have that were on pay channels will not play back. This is a "feature" of Sky boxes. The box is yours but Sky remotely cripple the features.

If recording is important buy a FreeSat + HD box. This gives TV guide, series link etc on UK channels only.

Does the + sign mean the same with freesat boxes as it does with sky!

    Yes it does.

Except it is free and continues after you stop paying (as it is free).

Sky kill the recording and playback when you stop paying.

Sky kill the recording and playback when you stop paying.

Sky kill HD when you stop paying too. The new Walker Saorsat box apparently claims freesat compatibility albeit under the 'sat4free' quasilogo.

Sat4free?! Where have you seen that recently?

I know about the Walker receiver, I was referring to the "sat4free" logo mentioned by Sponge Bob.

Sat4Free was a Freesat Hd unit ( the Humax was it) with a twiddle done to the software and of course a different name.

BBC sued them and shut down the sales arm...I don't know what happened to the sat4free brandname/trading name ....sat4free is not registered here but sat4you is.

So anyone can use sat4free as a Freesat (standard Freesat) name analogue .....unless the Beeb object stiffly and even then.

I know about the sat4free logo, I've seen it in the past on (overpriced) Goodmans receivers. I just wondered why you would refer to the Walker box as being marketed in this way.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 25,234 ✭✭✭✭Sponge Bob

    It is in certain quarters.

"7 Day On Screen Program Guide for Saorsat & Sat4Free"

Anybody is free to use the phrase sat4free though.

That guy isn't even consistent, it's 'satfree' one minute & 'sat4free' the next. I think I saw one of those Goodmans receivers languishing on a shelf recently, with its 'sat4free' logo, don't know how it could be much of a selling point.

I think on ebay they just throw everything into the description that's liable to be entered in a search.

Same on every auction/ad. site (I'm sure you & everyone else here is aware).

Note how other posters here highlighted "7 day EPG/programme guide" ...

The only sat4free boxes sold here are in Tesco's. I seen a few of them in Stillorgan some weeks ago.

The only difference is that the HD version is only 1 euro cheaper than the other at a price of €149. The non HD box therefore is €150.

That is some difference there I'm tellin ya.

do you need an aerial to work the soarview box or is there an alternative way.my tv is not a new tv and does not have soarview built into it

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,285 ✭✭✭Peter Rhea

You need a UHF aerial of some kind. Some places will have a strong enough signal for an indoor aerial, but these rarely give a 100% satisfactory user experience, even in a strong signal area, as they are prone to picking up interference & are easily upset by people & objects moving around.
