p45 and how to avoid paying emergency tax.

    Hey just wondering how do I avoid paying emergency tax? I got a summer job and start tomorrow. I have a p45 from my last job from last summer so if i give them that will I not have to pay emergency tax? Or do I have to fill in a different form ?

    P45 from 2011 is not valid now. you should send it to your local tax office as you may be due a refund of any tax paid last year. Ask them to send you a Tax Credit cert for 2012. They may ask you to give your new employer's registration no. You will get this from the wages office at your new employer.

    Call the paye 1890 number with your PPS number, the date you started, your new employers registered number (7 didgits with a letter at the end) and how often you are paid. Revenue issue a tax credit cert to your new employer which allows them on tax you correctly.
