Did any of you ever bring your golf bag on a train?

Just wondering as I would prefer to get the train (inter-city) to Dublin from Limerick and have my friend pick me up at Heuston. It is a standard size stand bag (ping hoofer I think). I want of course to bring it in the cabin car and either put it in the suitcase/luggage racks or even the overhead shelf? would it fit? would I get grief from iarnrod eireann?! Many thanks in advance. Oh btw there the new inter-city spanish built trains mainly.

I brought a huge golf travel bag on to the train to Killarney once no problem. I can't fully remember but I think I actually hoofed it up above the train seats on to the strong aluminium shelf.

I used to do it regularly and there was never any problem. Used to put them in the luggage rack at the end of the carriage. Haven't tried it on the new intercity trains though so I don't know what sort of storage capacity they have. I'd imagine it should be sufficient though.
