Is it ok to use a European Ps3 Slim in America?

Going to america and want to bring the ps3.

But somebody told me this was a bad idea because the european ps3 is different to the american ps3 and it could get damaged.

I cant understand why but does anybody know if this is true?

Did he clarify what he meant by "different"?

I think someone here mentioned before there's a dual input psu on the PS3, meaning 220/110v. If thats so it'd be grand to bring with you. Make sure you clarify that first :)

It'll work fine once you're using hdmi - if not you'll have grainy wandering black and white pictures to look forward to

I brought mine to America, bought a cheap plug adapter in the airport and it works fine.

The PSU has a built-in transformer.

I had a friend that brought his PS3 to america that didn't work. My American PS3 works fine but I think some models of European PS3 don't have the dual power PSU.

its easily figured out by flipping the thing over and seeing if it says 110-240 on it

I brought my Phat one to the us and it says 220-240V on it. I'm 99.99999999999% sure all PS3's are dual voltage as its to do with cost effective parts process. I plugged it straight into the wall, even though I knew it would work was still nervous until it actually turned on. 3 other guys who went over all bought a converter and they worked fine also. I told them they didnt need one and they plugged their into the wall and worked no issues.

Edit just for FYI all PS3's were originally 40Gb PS3 systems.

Not true. Sony's first offering of the PS3 was a 20gig model without wifi & memory card readers or a 60gig model with wifi & memory card readers. Both had 4 usb ports on the front and were mostly backward compatible with PS2 games.

Most PS3 will work worldwide as they have universal power supplys(all slim models will work) but if your model number is CECHC or CECHG you may have problems as most of these models have a power supply only compatible with the 220v-240v system.

I think you mis-read what I was trying to say. I meant that all 3 PS3's that were used by the guys I knew were originally 40Gb but had there HD's upgraded. I didnt mean that sony's original ones were 40Gb. The original PS3's were 20Gb and 60Gb at launch.

Think you may need a transformer to get that console to work with the lower voltage system used across the Atlantic. check out this link http://www.edepot.com/playstation3.html#PS3_Power_Supply it should provide you with information for your consoles model number.
