Moving apps/sd card stuff etc?

Moving from s2 to the s3 and was wondering whats the procedure for moving all my stuff over to the new phone?

I know I can sync my contacts. I can also sync the apps I bought/downloaded i presume?

Regarding sd cards, the one Im using at the moment is giving me a lot of problems so I'm getting a new one for the s3. Do i have to copy over all the contents from the old card to the new one, and if I don't, what affect will that have on apps etc?

I've titanium pro so do I have to back up anything on that for instance before moving phones?

Kinda confused over what I need to move over as the s2 was my first android.

    Thanks.

Can anyone provide me a solution to this guys? All I want to do it to get the stuff from my s2 plus sd card onto s3(when i comes) and a new sd card.

Can't seem to find a layman's explanation anywhere. XDA forum is kinda difficult to follow if your not really techy minded.

Would like if someone here could provide an approach to take.

Ye, all ur contacts and apps will be associated with your google account so they'll follow you to the new phone.

For music and pictures etc, you can just copy and paste them over to the new SD card.

yeah I understand that the contacts and apps will be synched once I set it up on new phones, but what about app data associated with each app? What happens to that?

Titanium will do all that for you.

Pics and stuff sync now too as far as I know (might need some kind of setup or agree to it but do on my phone).

You can use SMS backup to backup text messages to google account and restore back from there if there is anything you want.

I don't think there is a reliable way to keep all your settings for apps and databases and stuff to persist in a backup.

Personally I find moving phone or changing ROM is a great way to find out which apps I'm actually using and which ones I don't actually use by moving to new phones and downloading them as I need them again.

You leave a lot of trash on a phone that you don't care about even if you regularly clean up. Things you think you use that you might use once a month and going to that companies website gets you the same information etc... Or just games and stuff you don't use at all anymore.

of course some people just need to have all their collections of apps :)

    I'm not one of them.

Ok, tbh I've still not fully understood how I go about getting my apps data onto new sd card and onto new phone.

It seems no one even on xda can provide a straight forward answer.

So I'm going to backup using titanium pro and then do a full wipe of my current s2, and see how I go about reinstalling everything back onto the s2 while I wait for the s3 to arrive.

That way I'll at least have an idea of what to do/expect when trying to move stuff over. The only difference is that I'll put the new sd card into the s2 once I've it factory reset. Then when I want to move phones, I can just move sd new sd card with all the stuff already on it over to s3.

Does this make any sense or am I going about things the long way in order to do what I asked in the OP?

Probably a good plan, I would suggest doing your Ti Backup to dropbox/box/Google drive, so as you won't have to swap sd cards. Make sure you're not backing up system apps (uncheck the box in preferences) and that you are backing up all app data.

    Thanks man.

One question. Say I sync the backup from titanium to dropbox. When I get the s3 what's the steps I take to get my apps onto the new sd card/phone?

Kinda confused on that step. I'd have to root the s3 first I presume before I get titanium etc ?

Sorry, just saw your post now........... Good point!

I guess Ti Backup may not be the best way to go then, unless you know you're going to root again.

Are there many apps that you want to keep the data for? TBH the only thing I save when I do a factory reset are my text messages. I understand that you would lose game progress, but if it's only a couple of games it might be easier to find the files where that is stored and just move them across.

I find that the google's back up and restore works well for automatically redownloading apps when you sign in to a new device.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660918 Rooting the S3 doesnt appear to be too hard, so I'd go for it, might as well have full use of your device from the get go.

Personally having rooted my S2 on day 1 I will definitely be rooting the S3 but this seems a little tricky compared to the last time.

I'm sure a noob style guide will be available soon.

I'll be rooting on day 1 also, I want adblock from the start and I'd like to use Titanium to transfer some of my apps with settings, save the hassle. I'm not getting my S3 till wed. If you find a decent rooting guide let me know (simpler, that looks tricky).

Looking at it again it's just a simple PDA flash with Odin, then manually install the SuperUser app with adb (it's in the Android SDK, it allows you run commands on the phone from Windows). Just make sure you don't install Kies on your pc. I'll be giving it a go on Wed.
