Civil small claims

I am wondering what course of action can be taken for a person owing another person a small sum of money (less than €1000). It would appear that the small claims court does not cover this, whilst solicitors end up costing more than the actual claim.

In America and other countries this is what the small claims courts are for, however in Ireland you pretty much have to kiss smaller sums of money goodbye.

    Is this true?

District Court - Small claims is more for consumer issues.

Thanks for the info. But does one not need a solicitor for that?

There is nothing stopping you doing it yourself, if you want. If you have a solicitor he may do a deal. Lots of solicitors on the Internet who do small district court debt collection.
