I'm looking for an Android phone that is cheap as chips to get me through a rough spell I'm having with my iPhone, it needs to go off for repair... again. I've been without it for pretty much a month now and the old Nokia is just not hacking it anymore.

    Any suggestions?

They go as low as 40E, but be warned, a cheap droid will drive you nuts. The bottom bracket phones simply dont have the spec to run the OS nevermind do anything on top.

Your best bet is probably an old 2010 HTC/Sony on ebay.

Could probably do worse than this, for the money. If you can find a Galaxy Europa around for the same price, get that..

Take this as an opportunity to get away from the dictatorship that is iphone. Get yourself a decent Android such as the Samsung Galaxy S2.
How have you survived a month without a smartphone? You are very brave - I would need large doses of valium to survive even a couple of days.

Which models would the 2010 HTC/Sony etc. be?

An older HTC Desire, you could probably pick one of those up for around 100 quid? Great phone... :) Android will run nice on it...

    example:

Could pick up the Xperia Play fairly cheap on adverts most likely as they were on sale at Xmas.

If you don't mind a small screen, you can get the Xperia Mini Pro. 1Ghz Cpu and a hard keyboard that folds out. Pretty fast and good for most apps out at the moment.

Or you could get an Xperia Arc S has no fold out part but a HD camera.

I got my iPhone back, 'fixed' again but really it's not. Fookers!

Is there any half decent Android I could pick up on ebay etc. for around €50?
    Just to plug the gap.

You're not going to get much of a phone for €50. Try picking up a second hand San Francisco or maybe Monte Carlo on adverts or ebay.

I'm not expecting miracles for €50, I just want something that'll do me for 2/3 weeks while I try to sort my iPhone out finally. Surely there's something I can pick-up fairly cheaply second hand?

Don't think you could do better for the money OP, it'd be ideal if you're on vodafone cos I doubt these would come unlocked for obvious reasons..

Avoid those phones if you want to get into custom roming though.

If you want it as a play thing once the iPhone works properly go with a Sony Ericsson or Samsung or HTC.
