IE9 Pinning Red Box & Flashing

    I have that Ie9 thingy in the task bar. Like a blue bus symbol or balaclava.
    It now shows a 1 in a red box and gives a little flash.
    I click it and see that the page I was on looks just the same.
    I click refresh and it's still the same.
    So what's it for?

    Since your question isn't anything to do with the thread you posted in, I've split it into it's own thread.

    What you are describing is the notifications feature. It would appear that you are being notified that you either have an unread private message or are subscribed to a thread or forum with unread posts.

    I have since found that right-clicking it gives me a link to the forums so I can see which one has the reply.
