I don't recall there being one!

I'm not sure it is strictly necessary though - motor insurance quotes depend on too many factors, so comparing quotes online is a bit like comparing apples and oranges! Somebody might see somebody else's quote and say "Why is he getting it so cheap, I drive a 1.4L also" etc. but one person could have their car parked on a city street all year round, another could have their parked in a garage in the countryside, which may account for some of the difference in quotes, along with other things, apart from just age and engine size!

Lots of insurance threads pop up on this forum but the advice is nearly always the same - ring around as many insurance companies as you can and get lots of different quotes. And staying with the same insurance company at renewal is not always the cheapest option!

    Well amazingly I got:
1630 euro for Third party + fire and theft.
I am first time driver, 1.2 car (Corsa), 2001. I am 18. Student. So that was quite surprising.

Apparently the company I went to, has this thing if you do 10 EDT lessons with one oftheir instructors, it counts you in as 1 year.

    axa - drivesmart plan -

complete the requried lessons and get cert from drivesmart and start your own policy rates as full licence holder, even though you may only have Prov permit. Thus discount can be Major !! (2nd years renewal hopefully driver will have full licence)

if complete the requried lessons and get cert from drivesmart, but are being added to parents AXA Policy car then upto €400 or half the premium (whichever is less) off the premium

I heard that First Ireland also have this deal - I think it's called Drivefirst. You have to take 10 lessons from an instructor insured with them and they give you a 1 year bonus and extra discounts - My brother found them the cheapest when he was getting his first insurance. :o

    Why feel embarrassed?

Yeah, first ireland consider 10 EDT lessons with their instructor as 1 year no claims bonus even if you drove only for 1 week so far.

Btw out of interest I called them and asked how much would Audi TT 1.8L 2001 year cost to insure for 19 year old with learners permit, they said: 2900 Euro a year Third party, fire and theft. That was kind of interesting.
