I just finished watching this on Bluray. Still brilliant.

I first saw it in the Plaza Cinerama around 1980, when my older brother got fed up listening to me yakking about Star Wars. It was a really old print, and it broke and melted while we were watching, and had a few skips where that had happened before.

    But wow....

First time I saw it was during English class on probably a 14 inch television from about 20ft away with a class of typical noisy secondary school tossers between me and the screen. The English teacher was trying to give us a bit of 'culture' by screening some classic movies. We watched 2001 broken up into about 30min chunks per day. I think we go about 80mins in total watched before the teacher just gave up due to prob 90% the classroom just messing and not paying any attention to the movie.

I have seen the movie many times since. Like yourself I also have the BD version now and I can confirm it looks better than my first experience of watching it.
