Haven’t been out and about with my camera much lately, going through a real lull of activity. But I have been semi stalking one bird, learning its patterns, seeing how close it will let me get…

Just personally, I would like to see contextual pics along with the close ups - ie where the bird is sat, its surroundings etc.
Its great to be able to follow this bird, but at some point you are going to run out of originality and all the shots will be much of a muchness if you get me, I mean, unless the bird starts doing cartwheels or standing on its head then you arent going to get much more than bird standing, sitting, etc, but I hope you can extend your portfolio to cover other birds because I think you have captured the colours marvelously.

#1 is a bit to centre and so is like a stock photograph, way to much space on top and I myself like my subject to look into more vacant space then what is behind them.

#2 Again to much space on top and behind him his tail is crammed in to the right hand side of the frame.

#3 Not enough space to look into and not enough on top!!

The quality of the birds is pretty good I may add which is more the reason I am critical of the framing, if they were so so pics I wouldn't even bother commenting. :)

:D:D Had a good laugh at that one!

Unfortunately, at the moment, I'm in a bind in terms of the number of available birds. My own garden is a bit of a wasteland, no real shelter. Add in the huge number of crows and blackbirds that hover around, attracting the small and photographical is difficult. Which explains my interest in this little lad. But all I'm really doing is keeping in practice and adjusting technique.

There is a larger bird population nearby, in a small wooded area. Its a little harder to get too and the light is poorer. I'm currently working on my plans for there.

Thanks for the comments - they are appreciated.

Having the subject looking in to space, rather than having it behind, is always better. Its something I'm working on.

In terms of subject, its nice to have that one close up and then some contextual shots - which is what I was aiming for in #1 and #3.

#2 is crammed fairly tight, but I like it simply because of how the falling seed is almost eye level with the bird. Its just one of those that you couldn't plan and it would be impossible to repeat. :D

I'll put more emphasis on framing next time out, see what I can come up with.
