I'm sorry if this isn't the correct place to post this! I'm not looking to discuss if its right or wrong to pay the tax, I just have a question about it!

I have not and will not be registering my house for this, however I recieved a receipt today for paying the 100 euro charge, when I asked my father about it he admitted to registering it with his pps number, and in his name(We have the same name btw).Even though the house is in my name.

How to I go about informing them that this house has been registerd to the wrong person, and that I want it unregistered!

Should be able to get the name and pps number of the person it's registered under I highly doubt you are going to get the €100 refunded.

Whether you agree with the tax or not it is a legal requirement to pay the tax. I'd suggest you sort the €100 out with your father and move on.

If there is any discussion in here in relation to the merits of the household charge and/or discussion about evading/avoiding or simply not paying the tax I will close the thread.

I thought this would have been closed on the basis that it's a request for advice on how to evade tax.

It's an offence under the household charge legislation to provide false information. By registering the property in his own name your father has provided false information. Furthermore, assuming he has his own house and has paid the charge, he could now find himself with a demand for NPPR charge of €200.

I'm not getting into a debate about the household charge.

From reading the OP it seems that the household charge in relation to his property has been paid - therefore I would he hasn't evaded the tax.

Also please don't scaremonger about the NPPR. The OP gave no indication as to whether the property is his PPR or not.

Shane I suggest you read OP's post again.

The OP wants to de-register a property for the household charge. The intention being he doesn't want to pay the charge for a property upon which it is due, whether that is for this year or next. Whether or not the charge is due is a question of fact - not of opinion on the rights or wrongs of the charge itself.

As for "scaremongering" the intention of my response was to highlight the potential mess created by OP's father, even though he has obviously acted with good intentions and in good faith.

OP's father has registered and paid the charge for a property that is not his (the father's) PPR. On the face of it, it may appear to the NPPR Bureau that the NPPR charge should also be paid by the father on that property (presuming that information is shared and I've reason to believe it is). That is to say that regardless of whether or not the NPPR charge is due, it is possible the father could get a demand for it.

Thanks for the reply shane. I'm not looking for any info on evading this tax, just on getting a refund for my father because he paid for it even though he isn't liable for it and it shouln't be registered in his name

I contacted the household charge office by phone and they have sent me out a refund form, they also told me that you don't have to be the owner of a house to register it for the charge.
