    Hi all,

I currently have a Nikon D3000, with a 18 - 55 lens, I primarily use the camera for taking equestrian action shots but my lens is letting me down.

I think I am looking for a 55 - 300 Nikon (or Nikkor) Telephoto lens?

Opinions please? Will this fit the bill?

    Many thanks,

    D.

Do you feel you need more magnification? Do you think you exposure times are too long or that you have to push up your ISO indoors to get acceptable results?

thanks for your reply, I just think I need more magnification, the pictures are fine but I think I am loosing all the quality by having to crop in to the proper shot, which the quality isn't perfect as its so far away.

My D3000 is fine but with the current lens you can only get good quality pictures if the object is relatively close, if not you have to crop out the surround and loose half the picture.

    Any advice greatly appreciated!

Then get the AF-S Nikkor 55-300 so. It won't be ideal in low light conditions but I wouldn't really go putting a fast, expensive glass on a D3000.

I have the nikor 55-300 afs vr 11 lens and i find it brilliant. Use it mostly for football matchs, it can zoom from one end of the pitch to the other, have photo album in my sig. Bought mine here for €320 about a year ago; http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/6923731/art/nikon/af-s-dx-55-300-mm-f-4-5-5.html

    €280 at OneStop-Digital

I've ordered from these a few times, and it's always taking two or three days to deliver from Hong Kong. If you get hit by VAT (I never have), they'll reimburse it too :D
