Camera Appendectomy

    Initial Symptoms

My Mamiya C330 fell very ill at the weekend. Film advance lever completely jammed.

    Remedial Action Plan

Long story short, I decided to operate. The approach - anything that looked like a screw was taken off in the hope that the inner mechanics would reveal themselves.

    The Cause

The diagnosis... loose parts (see Figure A) roaming around inside the camera caused cogs in film advance mechanism to jam.

    The Fix

Take 'em out and pray to God for a miracle.

    The Road to Recovery

Now, time to stitch her back up. The problem... no idea where half the bits came from... screws and other stuff all over the places.

So I made a few educated guesses... but there were a few casualties (see Figure B) that never made it back onto the camera.

    The Recovery

I grabbed a hold of my usual test subject (who's modelling fees are increasing on a weekly basis) and ran a roll through her.

    The Result

The feckin camera was perfectly fine, not a peep out of her -

So I'm guessing that cameras have appendix... kinda, sorta.
