There used to be one at the Odyssey in Belfast, but it closed. There appears to be this thing called, isense, however, at a couple of Odeons in Dublin.

It seems to be IMAX in all but name.

This has been discussed to death lately.

iSense is faux "IMAX" because Odeon didn't pay the license to use the IMAX brand and instead decided to create their own. However, there's really no difference between digital "IMAX" and a regular digital cinema. IMAX is just a brand that implies certain standards. In most cases this means an average size screen pushed closer to the audience and higher ticket prices.

Real or "proper" IMAX is totally different. It's 70mm film (not digital) projected on a very large square screen. In other words, a superior cinematic experience. There isn't any up North. In fact, afaik there are only four "real" IMAX screens in the UK.

True IMAX is on its last legs. What currently passes for IMAX is a scam. As is iSense and its other imitators.

I think the reason IMAX is so popular, particularly in the US is because of the seating design. If you have ever been to regular cinemas there you will notice the gradiants between seating in regular cinemas is very poor. If you happen to be unfortunate enough to have a tall person seat in front your ****ed.

Yeah.. the last IMAX movie I was at was Toy Story 3 in Florida 2 years ago and loved the almost tiered design of a seating plan.

Vue is very good in this regard, I have to say. The seating in all the screens is well tiered. You never have to worry about heads in the way of the screen.

I was in the VUE in Leicester Square and the screen I was at wasn't very good. Plus the movie was not projected to fit the full screen. Very disappointing considering the price of tickets.

I meant the Vue in Dublin.
