How much does Google know about you?

Information is power and over the last few years google have been collecting a lot of it. Yesterday when I logged into my gmail account I was asked to provide my mobile phone number. I clicked no and the inevitable "are you sure?" box popped up so I clicked no again.

It got me wondering how much information google have on me. Is there a file on one of their servers somewhere with my name on it? We all know that they record what you search for so they can target you with specific advertising but other things like street view for example have no obvious purpose.

They seem to be constantly finding new ways to collect information and Id love to know what they plan to use it all for.

It has a very obvious purpose.
Is there a file on one of their servers somewhere with my name on it?
    You're not that important.
Id love to know what they plan to use it all for.
To direct relevant ads in your direction and make loads of money.

    That should be obvious.

Whenever I have a conversation with someone near my computer and I say, "I'll just Google it." as soon as I start to type in my question it autocompletes it for me. And the first option is always what I wanted to ask.

I think it's listening to me.

This should give you an idea of your information on the web

I always find it funny when people complain about how evil corporations are for taking our information, it's like we're in 1984, we're being spied on, blah blah, when they post up every tidbit of info about themselves on social sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Anyways, that person who looks through my internet history is gonna need therapy.

My God..............the things I've seen............at least I know there's a porno market for practically everything, and I mean EVERYTHING :)

I tried googling "how much do you know about me" but they didn't have the answer.

    Strange.

    How convenient.

They can tell you nearly everything else though can't they?

Just what are they holding back eh?

My first guess, password reset validation.

They have also added 2-step verification in an effort to reduce people having their Google accounts 'hacked', which relies of having a second device. Like a phone.

But i guess the OP isn't interested in something useful like that.

Wow, they're so off for me! They say I'm between 25-34 and male... I'm female and <25. They also say I like superhero movies... not so much. They're grand like, but would never Google them.

    Arts & Entertainment - Humor
    Games - Online Games
    Games - Puzzles & Brainteasers

Thanks for that. Anyone know of a funny online puzzle?

Google results without the Google tracking. Google know that I stopped using them a long time ago.

    Anybody ever play "Why Do...."?

Type "Why Do" into google followed by "Girls" for example and wait for the autocomplete suggestions.

    Good for a laugh sometimes.

"How Do", "Why are" etc. etc provide more fun answers.

I unfortunately did give my number, i also registered my phone with the company i bought it from. Its a smartphone, if i don't switch off the wi-fi on it I can effectively be tracked anywhere in the world. I also used my credit card to download an app through the google online app store, google also have my cv uploaded to my dafts. My youtube account is also linked to my gmail and i use google as my search engine.

So effectively google can know my phone number, my credit card details, where i am, my background, my spending, my interests, my political views (from youtube comments).

Because google is tied in with the US govt this means that i am policed from the USA.
