My smoky exhaust problem

Hi all, a few of ye might remember I was talking about a problem in another thread about how my exhaust filthies the back of my car. Well I went to another forum and asked the question just to get some opinions from people who know Hondas pretty well. The general consensus is that it's due to valve stem oil seals or piston rings being worn and resulting in the engine burning some oil and making the car smoky.

They then went on to say that as a result, I will more than likely need to get the engine rebuilt. How plausible do ye on here think this is? There's only 73k miles up on it and the smokiness isn't even noticeable other than seeing it blacken my bumper and boot lid. Very annoyed at this, don't want to have to rebuild the engine after only 2 months of owning it.. Any advice would be a big help!

Oil smoke will not dirty the rear of the car unless its very severe. Is it a black sooty type deposit? If so then, as I said, its an air/fuel mix problem.

if its causing a black smoke its usually indicates lack of breathing or to much fuel , could be something simple as just a new air filter

Yep it's a black sooty type. Now, I say it's smoky but I don't ever really see smoke, I just notice it dirtying the car. I'm going to try a new filter anyway because I think it's due a change.

@ND I assume the only ways to sort that would be to change the intake or to get it mapped?

Check with local garages, you can get your emissions tested for 20-30 euro.
It'll help you find out what's happening inside the engine.
